Have you heard about Wakatobi before? Where is it? How to getting there and why you should visit or included into your travel list?
If you have no idea about it, i will gladly tell you in this post.
Wakatobi is the name of the regency in Indonesia, South-East Asia. Administratively, it is one of the regency in province of South-East Sulawesi. Before it have became the regency, it is included into one of the region of Buton regency and in 2003, it was officially experienced the expansion of the region into its own regent.
The name of Wakatobi itself is the acronym of the four biggest islands where there are about tenth of the existed islands. Wa is representing Wanci island or as for now known as the Wangi-Wangi as the regency capital, Ka is for Kaledupa island, To as the Tomia island and Bi as the Binongko island. WaKaToBi.
Honestly, that is the truth.
There are some reasons why many of the travelers were visiting this regency, but the main reason for it is the beauty of the underwater life.
So many people have been experienced the true “heaven” of its marine life especially for the coral reefs which i will be talked about it in the later posts, hopefully.
When i said “directly” i means that you can simply book a flight to there, but you will mostly meet some transit areas in your journey.
For example, if you get a flight from Bali, you may will be transited at the Makassar (South Sulawesi) airport first and then Kendari (South-East Sulawesi capital). Then you can continue your flight to Wakatobi.
You may need at least half a day up to about 8 or 10 hours because mostly you will be transited for around 3-5 hours.
If you want to take a ship from Makassar (PELNI ships), you have to off at the port of Murhum at BauBau. Then you can take the passenger boat made of wood to Wanci or Tomia island.
From Makassar, your travelling by boat will takes for around 12 hours to BauBau. And from BauBau to Wanci, it will be around 8 hours in not a wavy season.
That’s all for now about where is Wakatobi and how to get there. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me in below comment section. Thank you.
